新宿のジャズ喫茶「DUG（ダグ）」は、1967年に創業者の中平穂積氏によって開店されました。中平氏はジャズ写真家としても著名で、店内には彼が撮影した多くのジャズアーティストの写真が飾られています。
「DUG」は、ジャズ喫茶としての歴史を持ちながらも、現在ではバーとしての機能も兼ね備えており、昼間はコーヒーを、夜はお酒を楽しみながらジャズを堪能できる場所となっています。店内は煉瓦造りの落ち着いた雰囲気で、アンティークの椅子やテーブルが配置され、心地よい空間を演出しています。音響面では、JBLのスピーカー「C54 TRIMLINE」を壁に埋め込む形で設置し、真空管アンプと組み合わせることで、柔らかく心地よい音を提供しています。この音響システムは、元山水電気の小林重雄氏が設計したものです。
「DUG」は、村上春樹氏の小説『ノルウェイの森』にも登場し、多くの文化人やジャズミュージシャンに愛されてきました。また、イラストレーターの和田誠氏が店のロゴをデザインするなど、文化的な交流の場としても知られています。
DUG, a jazz cafe in Shinjuku, was opened in 1967 by its founder, Hozumi Nakahira. Nakahira is also famous as a jazz photographer, and the cafe is decorated with many of his photographs of jazz artists.
Although “DUG” has a history as a jazz cafe, it now also functions as a bar, where you can enjoy jazz music while having coffee during the day and drinks at night. The interior of the shop is made of bricks, giving it a calm atmosphere, and the antique chairs and tables create a comfortable space. In terms of sound, JBL’s “C54 TRIMLINE” speakers are installed in the wall and combined with a vacuum tube amplifier to provide a soft and comfortable sound. This sound system was designed by Shigeo Kobayashi, formerly of Sansui Electric.
“DUG” appeared in Haruki Murakami’s novel “Norwegian Wood” and has been loved by many cultural figures and jazz musicians. It is also known as a place of cultural exchange, with illustrator Makoto Wada designing the store’s logo.
