“Thrust” is an album released in 1974 by jazz pianist and composer Herbie Hancock. It is a representative work of Hancock’s electric jazz period and is particularly acclaimed in the jazz-funk genre.
This album was produced with members of Hancock’s electric band, The Headhunters. Following on from the 1973 smash hit Head Hunters, it presents an evolved jazz-funk sound. Hancock used the ARP synthesizer and clavinet to create a new sound that actively incorporated electronic sounds. The rhythm section of Mike Clark (drums) and Paul Jackson (bass) built an important foundation in the history of jazz-funk.
